Kathmandu Post education fair begins today
In a bid to help students get a one-track mind, Kantipur Publications, after the grand success in 2012, is organising the second “The Kathmandu Post Career Edu Fair 2013” in the Capital beginning Friday.
The three-day mega event, to be held in the Exhibition Hall at Bhrikuti Mandap, will be
supported by Global Education Counselling Centre. While The British College is the title sponsor and Lord Buddha Education Foundation is the main sponsor, King’s College and ISMT are the other sponsors.
With the participation of more than 130 institutions under one roof, the fair will provide visitors with an opportunity to interact directly with representatives of several colleges and get the best counselling possible for furthering their academic careers. For the first time, some of the embassies, too, are participating in the event to inform students about visa procedures.
Unlike other education fairs, this one will not be limited to colleges and universities as it boasts of wide-ranging stalls of consultancies, banks and financial organisations, career consultants and job providers. Students and their parents can compare fees, courses, and other services offered by several universities. Visitors will also get an opportunity to learn about the education system, scholarships and the academic environment of the country they want to go to.
They can gather first-hand information on visa regulations and academic programmes offered by several countries from representatives of various embassies. The event aims to serve as a bridge between various institutions and students who are eager for educational and professional opportunities in and out of the country. The fair has given more priority to career counselling over course counselling. Various universities will provide information to the students about a number of disciplines, including Science, Humanities, Chartered Accountancy, Paramedics, Management, Information Technology and Fashion and Design.
“Every student wants proper information about education quality, courses of their choice, financial resources, scholarship options and living styles, climate of a particular place and country where they want to study,” said Mahesh
Swar, chief marketing officer at the Publications. “The fair will provide a package solution to all students.”
Another feature of the event is that the participating domestic colleges will also take students to their offices, besides providing information from their stalls, so that they can directly learn more about a particular education institution. Renowned personalities such as banker Anil Shah, social entrepreneur Anil Chitrakar and entrepreneur Ranjit Acharya will grace visitors with their presence and deliver motivational speeches on a daily basis. Different sessions on writing CVs and job applications apart from giving job interview tips to students.
Various bands and signers will perform every day from 1:30 to 2:30pm. An arrangement has been made for the collection and exchange of second-hand books. The organisers are planning to take 27 students on an educational tour to the UK and the US bearing all expenses of one of them. There will be door prizes for visitors.
Over 100,000 footfalls are expected in the second iteration of the event.
