Kathmandu University bearing the brunt of closure
Dhulikhel: Dhulikhel-based Kathmandu University is bearing the brunt of closure by students and professors’ unions affiliated with different political parties.
Unified CPN-Maoist-aligned All Nepal National Independent Student’s Union(Revolutionary) padlocked the main administrative building of the university for an indefinite period last Wednesday demanding publication of the results of entrance examinations, 10 per cent allocation of scholarships, among others.
The agitation has brought all academic activities to a halt at the university.
Sarad Mainali, ANNISU(R) state committee member and KU’s former council president, said they were compelled to padlock the university after it turned a deaf ear to their demands.
To add to university’s woes, Unified CPN-Maoist-aligned Nepal National Professors’ Union on Friday padlocked the main gate of the university.
The Maoist-aligned professors’ union has demanded that KU withdraw the letter issued to KU Professors’ Union General Secretary Janardan Lamichhane.

They submitted a five-point demands to KU vice-chancellor Dr Sureshraj Sharma on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Bhayandol Educational Concern Society condemned the stir in the university.
