Key TU posts vacant as terms expire
Kathmandu: The posts of the deans of Faculty of Education and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) under Tribhuvan University have fallen vacant with the expiry of their four-year term yesterday.
Dr Arun Sayami and Prof Prakash Man Shrestha were the deans of IOM and FoE, respectively. They were appointed on November 6, 2007.
According to experts, the posts are among the most coveted ones. The IOM dean can play a role in scholarship quotas while the FoE deals with millions of rupees poured into educational sector.
Similarly, term of the head of Central Department of Sociology/Anthropology also expired on October 11. One of the IOM staff said everything was operating smoothly even in the absence of the deans; however, delay in new appointment could hamper regular work.
The TU executive council is authorised to take decision on appointing and extending the tenure of deans and department heads.
Bhawana Bajracharya, chief, TU Information Division, said that tenures of some campus chiefs, rectors and registrars are coming to end in the last week of November and the first week of December.
The chiefs of Dhankuta Multiple Campus, Bhojpur Campus, Sanothimi Campus and Ratna Rajya Campus will end on November 30 while the stint of Mahendra Multiple Campus chief will expire on December 3.
Likewise, the terms of Rector Surya Lal Amatya and Registrar Bhim Raj Adhikari will end on November 25.
Prof Amatya admitted that the term of some deans and department heads had already expired and that no decision has been taken to make fresh appointments yet. He said, “The TU vice-chancellor proposes names of new appointees or extension of previous appointees in the executive council.”
