KUSOM portraits to help quake-hit village Kolanti
Euta Gaau Haami Afai Banau (Build a village on our own) is an initiative of the Kathmandu University School of Management (KUSOM) in association with KUSOM Social Welfare Club (SWC) and KUSOM Faculty Welfare Society (FWS). For the success of this campaign, the Euta Gaaun Haami Afai Banau team aligned with the Shutter Corp team for a two-day ‘Portrait For a Cause’ which took place on May 30 and June 4 at Milan International Studio, Woodland Complex, Durbar Marg.
Under this campaign, individuals through social media, especially Facebook, were encouraged to join in a portrait session with Shutter Corp. During the session, people were photographed with their personal messages for Nepal with reference to the rebuilding of Nepal. The charge was a minimum of Rs 425.
The fund from the two-day portrait session was 100 per cent committed to rebuilding temporary shelters and temporary school for a village in Kolanti, Kavre. With 28 houses and one school — Shree Janta Secondary School with 275
students — damaged by the earthquake, Kolanti is in a vulnerable condition and this will exacerbate as monsoon is approaching. So, in this dire condition KUSOM has stepped ahead to support Kolanti.
Furthermore, Dean at KUSOM, Prof Subas KC supported the school’s initiatives through his words, “This community-building campaign is a worthy example of the principles of action with conviction… The spirit should not only be one of Euta Gaaun Haami Afai Banau but also of Euta Gaun Haami Afno Banau. Without the spirit of making it Afno, you will have difficulty sustaining substantive support.” Interesting thought indeed.
Other than the participants’ worthy donation in the portrait event, Donation For Nepal (DFN) donated Rs 10,000 during the first session of ‘Portrait for a Cause’.
