Lalitpur public schools' SLC pass rate goes down
Lalitpur: This year, community schools based in Lalitpur fared poorly in terms of SLC pass percentage compared to the previous year.
According to the District Education Office, 1,333 (53.9 per cent) out of 2,473 examinees from 74 community schools passed the exams this year, bringing the pass rate down by 20 per cent compared to the previous year when 72.29 per cent of examinees from the community schools passed. The pass rate in SLC exams 2067 BS was also disappointing with only 46 per cent examinees making it through. This year, out of 8,995 examinees from 197 Lalitpur-based institutional schools and 74 community schools, 700 boys and 733 girls from community schools passed, while the number of boys and girls from institutional schools, who made it through, stood at 3,160 and 2,779, respectively, achieving a pass rate of 91.6 per cent. Twelve boys and 14 girls from community schools passed with distinction this year, while 734 boys and 687 girls from institutional schools passed with distinction. Of the 63 schools that achieved 100 per cent pass rate, only one is community school — Lamatar-based Shrinjeri Community Secondary School. Eight community schools in the district have had less than 15 per cent pass rates.
The Lalitpur District Education Office has warned schools with less than 15 pass percentage that it may stop providing grants and scrap their permission to operate if the pass rate remains below 15 per cent for three consecutive years. Quality of education is poor at community schools though they have more resources at their disposal than institutional schools, said District Education Officer Manakaji Shrestha. He suggested that action plans, reforms in the education system, parental care and hard work on the part of students can go a long way in improving the schools’ performance.
