Madhesi teachers' union padlocks HSEB office
Loktantrik Teachers’ Association (LTA) affiliated to Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party had padlocked the office of Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) demanding proportional representation in all agencies under HSEB.
The teachers’ union has demanded its representation in HSEB council and assembly, including the examination scrutiny board and subject committees.
Issuing a press statement on Thursday, LTA said that it had to padlock the HSEB office after its demands were not addressed. It has demanded that the post of vice-chairman or member-secretary from the HSEB has to be allocated to Madhes-based teachers’ unions.
Both executive posts are vacant after Hem Kumar Mishra and Bhim Lal Gurung retired completing their four-year tenure in October last year.
The Madhes-based teachers associations are demanding for the vice-chairman’s position, arguing that the former office bearer, Mishra, also belonged to the Madhesi community.
According to sources, former secretaries Janardan Nepal, Mahasharm Sharma, former examination controller of Tribhuvan University Daya Man Karmacharya are vying for the post of HSEB vice-chairman.
Similarly, Narayan Koirala, HSEB joint-secretary, and Deepak Raj Subedi, chairperson to Higher Secondary Schools Teachers’ Association Nepal, are trying for the post of member-secretary.
In absence of top level officials, HSEB has been facing difficulties running its administrative functions. It has yet to publish the results of grade 11 exam that was held in April last year.
