MBBS questions at BPKIHS leaked, dean resigns
Dharan: The BP Koirala Institute of Health Science (BPKIHS), Dharan has cancelled a supplementary MBBS exam after it was found that the question paper for the exam was leaked.
An emergency meeting of the executive committee of the BPKIHS, which lasted till late Sunday night, cancelled the exam of cardiovascular subject of MBBS first year, which was conducted early in the day. The meeting also postponed another exam, which was scheduled for Monday, until a new notice is published.
“The exam of the cancelled and postponed papers will be held after we finalize new question papers,” said Dr Pashupati Chaudhary, assistant spokesperson for the BPKIHS.
According to Dr Chaudhary, even the exams conducted before Sunday are now under the scanner. “The exams held prior to Sunday can also be cancelled if new evidences of question leak are found,” Dr Chaudhary said.
The meeting was hastily called after one of the examinees, Aashna Thakur, admitted that she got the question paper of cardiovascular exam from Dr Nirmal Baral, Dean of the Exams Department at the BPKIHS, in advance.
She also disclosed that Dr Baral had provided her with all the answers prior to the exam. Aashna was interrogated after Dr Kopila Agrawal, who was monitoring the exam, found all the questions and answers written in her note book, which was kept aside in the exam hall before the exam began. It was also revealed that Ashana had shared the leaked questions with her friends.
On Monday, following the disclosure of the question leak, Dr Baral resigned on “the grounds of morality”. But, he refuted the allegations.
“It is true that the questions were leaked,” Dr Baral said. “But, I am not the guilty. I have been made a scapegoat. I want a free and fair probe into the issue.” Dr Himal Sangraula has replaced Dr Baral as the new dean of the institute´s exams department.
Meanwhile, Dr BP Das, Vice Chancellor of the BPKIHS, said that he will form a probe team and take actions against the guilty in the question leak. “The action will be taken against whoever is found guilty,” he said.
It is learnt that Ashna´s father Dr Amar Nath Thakur and Dr Baral, the accused, are close buddies. Dr Thakur, who now lives in Birgunj, had become a good friend of Dr Baral when he worked in the pathology department of the BPKIHS. Aashna had failed all the papers of her MBBS first year exams.
