Med colleges asked to hold entrance tests
Acting on the directive issued by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), the Institute of Medicine (IoM) under Tribhuvan University has asked two affiliate medical colleges to conduct entrance examinations for foreign students seeking admission to Post-Graduate (PG) programmes in Nepal.
National Medical College, Birjung and Universal College of Medical Sciences, Bhairahawa are among the seven IoM affiliated colleges that run PG programmes.
The CIAA on April 27 had asked the medical schools to hold entrance examinations for foreign medical students seeking admission to PG and MBBS programmes.
Earlier, only Nepali students were required to take such entrance examinations for PG. An estimated 20-30 foreign students , especially from the SAARC region, come here to pursue Post Graduate studies each year.
Dr Sarad Onta, assistant dean at the IoM, said the entrance will ensure that only the most qualified students secure their place for their speciality degree after MBBS.
“We will soon ask all the medical colleges to conduct the examinations for MBBS students as well before they get to study in Nepal,” Dr Onta said, informing that the IoM Examination Committee will prepare questions and that exam centres will be decided accordingly.
