National College introduces BoSS
Focusing on the dynamics of social change, the National College, Center for Development Studies, has introduced a new course Bachelor of Social Sciences (BoSS) affiliated to Kathmandu University.
According to a press release issued by the college, teaching Social Science in an integrated manner is not very common here in Nepal and KU has been a pioneer in starting and strengthening integrated interdisciplinary courses where Bachelor in Social Sciences is a new dimension bringing together the important issues of Social Sciences.
The programme aims to equip students with research skills — both qualitative and quantitative. After completing this course, the students will be able to carry out policy analysis for conceptualisation and project formulation, among others.
The programme contains core subjects of Sociology, Anthropology, Culture, Political Science and Psychology among others. It is a course with provision of internship, project work, along with electives of three subjects for specialisation. The student can also opt for taking foreign language as a part of the programme. It is a 125-credit-hour course that will be completed in eight-semester (four-years) cycle.
The National College, Centre for Development Studies has been running Bachelor in Development Studies (BDevS) since 1999 and Bachelor in Development Finance (BDFin) in affiliation with Kathmandu University-School of Arts. It has played an important role in supporting social science studies at the undergraduate level in KU and accounts for around 40 per cent of the total undergraduates in the School of Arts, as per the press release.
