National Education Day being observed
Kathmandu :National Education Day and International Literacy Day-2011 is being observed across the country today by organizing various programmes.
The Education Ministry has formed 105-member main function committee under the leadership of Education Minister to mark the day in order to highlight the importance of education to individuals, communities and societies.
The slogan set for this year is ‘Quality education with working skills and technology; declare school the peace zone’.
On the occasion, President will confer on Nepal Bidhyabhusan Awards to PhD holders from various Universities and the students with outstanding performance at different levels.
In another event, the Prime Minister will reward the best community schools and institutional schools with national shield and cash.
A tea reception will be hosted at Education Ministry at Kesharmahal to mark the day this evening.
Spokesperson of the Ministry, Janardan Nepal informed necessary publicity materials have been dispatched to all the district education offices to observe the day across the country.
September 8 was proclaimed the International Literacy Day by UNESCO on November 17, 1965. On the day each year, the UNESCO reminds the international community of the status of literacy and adult learning globally.
