No untoward incident on first day of SLC exam
RAUTAHAT/DIPAYAL: The first day of the School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examination this year remained largely peaceful throughout the country today.
As in previous years, some examinees stole the limelight.
In Tanahun, four physically challenged students sat for the English exam. Among the four, three are physically disabled and one is hearing impaired. The differently-abled students appeared from Nirmal Secondary School A, Nirmal Secondary School B and Maharsi Ved Byash Sanskrit Centre.
District Education Officer Hari Gautam said 5,486 regular and 1,555 exempted students are attending the SLC examinations from the district.
The first day of the exam was peaceful in all the examination centres in Panchthar.
A total of 3,353 students from the regular category and 2,636 from exempted category are giving the exam from the district. Two differently-abled students appeared in today’s paper from the eastern district.
In Rautahat, Mahesh Kumar Das was expelled from Shree Higher Secondary Simarabhawanipur examination centre after he was caught cheating. Altogether 8,718 regular and 2,061 exempted students are sitting for the SLC from Rautahat.
Amrit Gharti was expelled from Simaltari exam centre for violating the exam code of conduct in Gulmi.
Jhapa DEO Ambika Prasad Regmi said, 16 differently-abled students sat for today’s test in the district. As many as 12,155 regular and 3,007 exempted students are attending the examinations from Jhapa.
In Kaski, 44 physically challenged students sat for the exam. Altogether 10,684 students are giving the SLC examination from Kaski.
Jailbirds are also attending this year’s SLC exam from different districts.
Six inmates from the regional prison in Bhimphedi of Makawanpur sat for the exam. Arrangements had been made to enable the jailbirds to sit for the exam in the prison cell.
Four inmates sent to jail for involvement in murder gave today’s exam from Khotang. The examinees are Suresh Rai, Surendra Rai, Sushma Rai and Anju Rai. Likewise, four inmates from Jhapa and two from Kaski also sat for the exam.
Sixty-five-year-old Prem Bahadur Khanal sat for today’s exam at Birendra Higher Secondary School centre in Bafikot VDC of Rukum. Father of four daughters and three sons, Khanal has more than a dozen grandchildren. Khanal said he sat for the SLC as education was necessary for village politics. Khanal is president of NC Magma Village Unit Committee.
Sixty-two-year-old Krishna Prasad Oliya from Lamjung appeared in today’s exam from Ammar Singh Secondary School in Pokhara. Oliya is a local NC leader.
Mediapersons were barred from collecting news related to the SLC examination in Siraha.
Siraha CDO Anil Kumar Thakur said mediapersons could collect news only from the examination monitoring committee.
Some school proprietors in Lahan, Golbazaar and Mirchaiya areas have been accused of conducting unfair practice in connivance with local administration and exam monitors.
An examinee alleged that the school inspector had leaked the question paper from an examination centre. CDO Thakur refused to comment on the allegation.
Issuing a press release today, Federation of Nepalese Journalists,Siraha chapter, condemned the authority for preventing journalists from collecting news.
