Overloaded school buses fall under traffic's net
BHAKTAPUR: The Metropolitan Traffic Police has initiated a campaign to take action against school vehicles which carry pupils beyond the normal capacity.
The traffic police jumpstarted the campaign Monday to apprehend school vehicles transporting students beyond the capacity, even after charging exorbitant transport costs to parents, said metropolitan traffic division chief and Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Ganesh Raj Rai.
Commenting that the schools have straightly ignored the child rights by making them stand up in bus for hours, he said, the campaign has been initiated to bring the schools breaching transport rules to book.
At least 201 schools in the Capital were taken action for carrying students more than the vehicle’s capacity in course of check carried out yesterday, he further informed.
