PM appoints varsity VCs
Kathmandu:Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal Monday appointed vice-chancellors to seven universities across the country putting months of speculations and uncertainties to rest.
Chancellor Khanal made these appointments at the recommendation of a committee coordinated by Education Minister Ganga Lal Tuladhar.
Prof Dr. Hira Maharjan of Kirtipur, Kathmandu, was appointed the Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, according to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
Khanal appointed Prof. Maheshwor Man Shrestha of Koteshwor, Kathmandu, to Purbanchal University, Prof. Dr Shiva Hari Marahathha of Bakrang, Gorkha, to Nepal Sanskrit University, Prof. Khagendra Prasad Bhattarai of Lalitpur to Pokhara University, Prof Dr. Kailash Nath Pyakurel of Naya Baneshwor, Kathmandu, to University of Agriculture and Forestry, Dr Jaya Raj Awasthi of Huinnath, Darchula, to the Far-Western University and Prof Dr Padma Lal Devkota of Birendranagar, Surkhet, to the Mid-Western University, a statement issued by spokesperson at the office Jagadish Regmi said.
The universities were facing problems in their regular work in the absence of the top officials at the helm.
A few days ago, Education Minister Tuladhar said the appointments were delayed because of the stands of political parties in sharing the plum academic posts.
He said he had been dragged into controversy because he wanted to make the appointments impartial.
