Pokhara varsity shut again
Kaski: Pokhara University (PU) was closed again on Wednesday right after the withdrawal of 23-day protests by the CPN-Maoist aligned students and the varsity’s Employees’ Association.
CPN-UML affiliated All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) padlocked the university again saying that they do not agree on the deal reached on Tuesday between the agitating side and the university management and that they were not informed of the agreement.
Subash Malla, secretary of UML affiliated student body, said an agreement was struck on October 31 to inform ANNFSU of any meeting. “We have started the agitation without affecting classes and examinations,” he said.
Earlier, PU was shut on November 18 to protest the appointment of 13 new employees by the varsity’s executive council.
As a result of the earlier protests, the examination of Bachelor’s and Master’s levels set to begin from Sunday has been put off indefinitely. Result publication of the past exams has also been delayed while all administrative and academic works have been affected. There are around 25,000 students under the PU affiliated colleges.
