Protest for improved semester system
Students of Tribhuvan University studying in different colleges in the Semester System today protested against the university, demanding improved system.
Hundreds of students staged protest against the TU for implementing the Semester System at the Masters’ level in campuses in the valley without its improvement.
TU had launched Semester System in campuses on the premises of the university and its central departments. Some months ago, it decided to introduce the semester system in campuses of the Valley .
As many as 10 protesting students from Kirtipur Campus were arrested and later released.
Ramesh Malla, vice president, All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary, aligned to UCPN-Maoist, today said the students’ demands were genuine, but the administration called the police and arrested students who were holding talks with the officials.
Meanwhile, student unions aligned to various political parties demanded that TU properly analyse the results of colleges where the semester system has been implemented along with availability of infrastructure for the semester system before expanding it to campuses in the Valley.
He said, “TU has not been able to bring a new curriculum and infrastructure for the semester system.” He also said that results have to be published in the form of grading system and the staff and TU professors were not trained for the semester system.
He stated that around 200 students had protested on the premises of the university on their own because of TU’s inability to fulfil its commitments.
