PU exams put off‚ nursing students riled
Kathmandu: Students of nursing colleges affiliated to Purbanchal University (PU) today vented anger at the university’s failure to conduct annual examinations on time.
Currently, PU has postponed annual exams of BSc fourth and second year Nursing for the third time.
Rubina Khadka, a BSc Nursing fourth year student of Chakrabarti Habi Education Academy, said she was frustrated with the exam postponement.
“Our exam was scheduled for September 20. The exam was postponed for the second day on September 21,” she said. “All examinees had already got admit cards, but the exam was postponed to November 7.” She said, “Though the new schedule has been published, we still doubt the exam will be held at the stipulated time.”
She further said that the PU has never implemented its academic calendar.
Besides, the BSc Nursing fourth year result should have been published within 45 days from the exam, but PU published the result nine months after the deadline last year.
On condition of anonymity, a BSc Nursing second year student from Innovative College said their exam had already been postponed three times. “The exam was scheduled for September 16 for the first time, November 4 for the second time and now November 27 for the third time,” she said.
She added that the exam was postponed after student unions’ pressure.
Meanwhile, Jitendra Yadav, deputy controller, PU, said they postponed the exam at the request of some colleges.
“Some colleges had pressurised us to postpone the exam stating that they were yet to complete their syllabus,” said Yadav.
PU Vice Chancellor Prof Maheshwor Man Shrestha admitted that the academic calendar of the university was not regular, but pledged to make it regular in the days ahead.
