Purbanchal University a troubled institution
Biratnagar: Delay in the appointment of Vice Chancellor (VC) at Purbanchal University (PU) has affected financial, academic and administrative works in the varsity.
The university has run out of funds as the budget for the current fiscal year has not been approved as a result of the VC’s absence. PU Registrar Ram Kumar Thakur said the university will not be able to provide salary to its staff or pay rent and utilities bills if the budget is not passed immediately. PU has 275 employees, including professors. Each month, the university needs Rs 5 million for administration and staff salary.
In case the university failed to approve its annual budget before the beginning of the new fiscal, the executive council could okay it not exceeding 120 percent of the amount allocated in the preceding fiscal. But the council has not been able to meet in the absence of the VC. Appointment of dean for the management faculty and textbook revision have also been affected, said Thakur.
