Review IoM dean's appointment,TU told
Kritagya Regmi Kathmandu, January 19 The government today directed the office of the vice chancellor of Tribhuvan University to review its earlier decision to appoint new dean at the Institute of Medicine.
The government's move came after doctors halted services across the country supporting Dr Govinda KC's demand to end political interference in the health sector. Education Minister and Pro-chancellor of Tribhuvan University Madhav Poudel has written to TU's Vice Chancellor Hira Bahadur Maharjan, directing him to review the decision to appoint Dr Shashi Sharma as new IoM dean.
Poudel also reminded the Tribhuvan University's executive council of the suggestion put forth by government Chairman Khil Raj Regmi as Tribhuvan University chancellor, as well as by prochancellor, during a discussion with IoM officials on January 5. They were against commencing the process to appoint new dean.
Minister Poudel also expressed his dissatisfaction with vice chancellor for not addressing Chairman Reg mi's concerns about the deteriorating health of Dr KC.He added that it was `our duty' to save the life of Dr KC and ensure smooth delivery of health services.
Sources at the vice chancellor's office confirmed receiving the directives from Pro-chancellor.Meanwhile, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has clarified that Chairman Regmi had no role in the appointment of Institute of Medicine's new dean.On the contrary, he was against the appointment, read a statement issued by Regmi's press adviser.
