RPP asks govt to meet Far-West Univ demands
The Parliamentary Party of Rastriya Prajatantra Party on Friday urged the government to address the demands of the student unions who have taken to streets demanding budget for the proposed Far Western University.
Issuing a press release today, former Prime Minister and the RPP PP leader Lokendra Bahadur Chand stated that the PP’s attention has been drawn towards the intervention into the students’ agitation in Kanchanpur, reminding the authorities that people have rights to launch peaceful protest in democracy.
“I, on behalf of Rastriya Prajatantra Party and myself, demand the government to at the earliest fulfill the reasonable demands of students and stop the intervention of (local) administration (into their protest programmes),” Chand said.
With Kanchanpur as the epicentre, students have been launching agitation including general shutdown in the Far-Western districts for a week or so. Many students have been injured while clashing with the security personnel.
The government has claimed that it has already allocated Rs 60 million for the university yet to be set up in Mahendranagar in this year’s budget.
