Sanskrit college fails to pay teachers
Syanga: A Sanskrit college in the district has failed to provide salary to its teachers for the past eight months.
Radhadamodar Sanskrit Vidyapeeth has also been unable to provide Rs 1,000 scholarship to each of its students. The college has just been providing a monthly stipend of Rs 3,000 to its teachers. “We even reduced the scholarship amount for students to Rs 400 but that too has not been distributed for the past four months,” said Khemraj Khanal, the college principal.
The college started facing problems due to delay in the annual aid being provided by the Nepal Sanskrit University.
The college requires Rs 500,000 to 700,000 to pay its teachers and run the scholarship programme each year. Last year, the college had received just Rs 300,000 in aid from the Sanskrit university but did not receive any financial support this year. However, Ghanashyam Khanal, a teacher in the college, said they have been running classes despite financial difficulties. “This is the only college in the region and it’s our duty to keep it running,” he said. The college was established in the mid-1950s as a Sanskrit school. It started running classes up to the Bachelor’s level three years ago. Currently, the college has 75 students and 10 teachers.
