School for children of civil servants in Dhankuta
Dhankuta: After a long wait of four years, the government´s plan to set up residential schools for the children of civil servants across the country is finally taking shape.
The government during the budget announcement for the fiscal year 2009-10 had said that it would open such schools in the regional headquarters of all the development regions. Now a school for children of civil servants has finally come into operation in Dhankuta, the regional headquarters of eastern development region.
The government had not been able to give shape to the plan due to lack of proper infrastructure, but the school has come into operation this year, said Janardan Nepali, coordinator of the Civil School Management Committee.
“The school will lease a building and run classes from the new academic session,” said Nepali. “In the initial phase, we will start classes with 30 new students in grade five,” he added.
Nepali shared that they will be leasing the building of Dr Ram Prasad Pokharel Community Eye Hospital in Sallari Forest Area and the recently completed building of Dhankuta branch Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI). In addition to that, the nearby building of Gokundeshwar Higher Secondary School will also be used for the school.
Meanwhile, Nepali informed their previous plan of constructing a new building hasn´t materialized. “Around two years ago, political parties and local administration had decided to lease 198 ropanies of land for the establishment of the school but the plan couldn´t take shape,” said Nepali.
However, over the past two years, the government has already provided Rs 19.5 million for the construction of the school. “This amount will be used for regular expenses of the school,” said Nepali.
Dhankuta Chief District Officer (CDO) Rameshwar Dangal shared that they plan to enroll around 7,000 students in the school.
