School staff demand recognition
Nepal School Employees Union (NSEU) today demanded that the government recognise their union and legitimise it in the new Education Act.
Submitting a 12-point demand to Education Minister Dina Nath Sharma today, the union said that they have long been contributing to the education sector, but had been deprived of state facilities all along.
“We want the government to recognise our organisation in the Education Act,” Kamal Khatiwada, general secretary of the union, said, adding “The government gave recognition to Nepal Teachers Union in the Education Act. We also want the same.”
Other demands of NSEU include timely salary and promotion of school staffers. They also want equal pay and perks for school employees from primary to higher secondary level and implementation of the Supreme Court verdict regarding School employees.
Education Minister Dina Nath Sharma said he really wants employees to get their salaries on time, but due to various difficulties he was unable to address their demands. He assured them that their demands would be met at the earliest.
