Schools withdraw tuition fee hike decision
Government and institutional schools today decided to withdraw an earlier decision to hike tuition fee for this academic year.
Agitating students had been padlocking account section of institutional schools since April to protest the decision to hike tuition fee. A meeting was held between agitating students and other concerned stakeholders today to discuss tuition fee hike.
The meeting culminated in a five-point agreement which includes adjusting the hiked amount of last month with this month’s fee, incorporating representatives of the CPN-Maoist-aligned student union All Nepal National Independent Student Union-Revolutionary in the high level monitoring committee and holding talks with students and institutional school teachers to discuss various educational issues. They have also agreed to implement institutional school directives and change foreign (English) names of schools by mid-June. Lal Bahadur Tamang, Treasurer, ANNISU-R, said the padlocked account section of all the schools were opened from today. “We will regularly monitor the implementation of the agreement,” he added.
Tek Narayan Panday, Director, Department of Education; Sarad Rasaili, President, ANNISU-R; Lakshya Bahadur KC, President, Private and Boarding Schools Organisation Nepal; Surya Bahadur Adhikari, Vice-president, National Private and Boarding Schools Association Nepal; Suprabhat Bhandari, President, Guardians Association Nepal; and Dharma Dutta Devkota, Nepal National Guardians Association, signed the agreement today.
