Seven private schools face closure
District Education Office (DEO), Kathmandu has decided to close seven schools from the new academic session accusing them of operating without acquiring permission from the concerned government authority.
Samata Foundation, Bouddha, Summerfield School, Kapan, Mount Valley Secondary School, Mahadevsthan and Hills Garden Academy, Dahachowk are said to be operating without registering themselves with the government.
Similarly, Mountain Range English School in Jorpati and Nanglebhare Hillside Academy in Nanglebhare will also be shut from mid-April.
Except Samata Foundation, the other six schools have been running classes only up to grade eight. Samata Foundation, established in 2008, is facing the action for moving to a different location without informing the DEO. The school has around 4500 students from nursery to plus two levels.
Despite the DEO´s frequent notice asking the schools to get registered, they had refused to comply, said Kathmandu DEO Baikuntha Aryal.
He added that the government had not taken action against the errant schools waiting for the running academic year to conclude. “The DEO was concerned about the students already studying in those seven schools, but they can´t take new admissions from the new session.”
The office has also warned the students and guardians that the DEO would not be responsible for any trouble if they admit their wards at such private schools.
The DEO on Friday had issued a public notice on its action against the schools.
