Shortage of textbooks affects Mugu schools
Mugu: Around 15,000 students in the district have been affected as the authorities concerned are yet distribute textbooks even one month after the academic session began in the region.
Students of the Nepal Rastriya Lower Secondary School at Karkibada said they go to school every day only to return home without attending classes. “I am worried that I may not be able to pass examinations without receiving textbooks in time,” said Nabin Kumar Bham, a tenth grader in the school. The school has around 270 students.
Ganesh Rawal, a teacher at the school, said some students do not come to school while others go home early without attending classes. He said the upcoming examinations will be affected due to the shortage of textbooks.
Students at the Mahakali Namuna Higher Secondary School in Gamgadhi are also facing the same problem. Teachers in the school said it is very difficult for them to teach children and assign them homework without books. District Education Officer Man Bahadur Ghimire said textbooks are not supplied in the district though he frequently requested staffs of the Nepalgunj branch of Sajha Prakashan to initiate the supply process.
He said they also urged Regional Education Director Chudamani Poudel to help solve the problem caused by the negligence of Sajha Prakashan.
A Gamgadhi-based book distributor said books have been stuck on the way due to obstruction on the Gamdadhi-Nagma road.
