SLC exam to be conducted amid upped security

BHAKTAPUR: School Leaving Certificate exam this year is going to be conducted amid upped security, with 15 security personnel at each exam centre.

The Office of the Controller of the Examinations said today 15 security personnel — five more than in earlier years — will be deployed at each exam centre during SLC examination this year that will be conducted from March 19 to 30 across the country ‘to maintain peace and security and conduct the exams in a decent manner’.

A total 1,862 exam centres have been fixed across the country for SLC 2015 and 27,930 security personnel will be deployed.

Examination Controller Bishnu Bahadur Dware, however, said the district examination coordination committees, which will be coordinated by chief district officers, can increase or decrease the number of security personnel at some centres depending upon the strength of the examinees. According to Dware, number of examinees at different centres can vary between 150 and 1,000.

Dware also informed that the government has increased daily allowance for the security deployed for SLC 2015. “Earlier, each of the security personnel deployed for SLC exam used to get Rs 50 as daily allowance. This year the allowance has been increased to Rs 150,” he said.

Along with 27,930 personnel security personnel, a total of 1,862 exam superintendents, 2,440 assistant superintendents, 23,014 invigilators and 7,699 helpers (peons) will be deployed for exams.

OCE has also increased daily allowance for all. Superintendents will get Rs 800 each daily while assistant superintendents will get Rs 500, invigilators Rs 350 and helpers will receive Rs 200.

Earlier, superintendents used to get Rs 500, assistant superintendents Rs 350, invigilators Rs 200 and helpers used to get Rs 100.

A total of 574,685 examinees — 212,504 boys and 213,710 girls in regular category and 59,253 boys and 85,930 girls in exempted category — will appear in SLC exams this year.

Similarly, a total of 3,288 examinees — 2,037 boys and 1,251 girls — from technical and vocational stream are also appearing in SLC exam this year.

Dware warned of stern action if anyone is found involved in indecent activities during the exam.

“We have prepared 35-point code of conduct for the examinees and other involved in conducting exams,” said Dware, adding, “If anyone is found breaching the code of conduct, stern action will be taken.”

Dware also informed that 14 joint secretaries from the Ministry of Education and offices under it have already left for 14 zones to monitor the SLC exams. “Fourteen monitoring and inspection teams led by joint secretaries will be monitoring the exams in all the zones,” he said.
