Shiva Kumar Sapkota, District Education Officer, Lalitpur, on Saturday said that though the pass percentage the SLC exam-2071 was an achievement, it was not satisfactory, given the huge investment made in the education sector of the country.

SLC results were announced yesterday, with 47.43 of the examinees passing the exam.

“The education system of western countries has been incorporated in Nepal, but political instability is a stumbling block to the implementation and formulation of laws pertaining to education,” he said.

Sapkota added that most of the academic institutions have invested more in physical infrastructure development than in capacity building of teachers, students and parents. Lakshya Bahadur KC, President of Private and Boarding School’s Organisation Nepal, said, “Though the pass percentage has increased by three per cent compared to last year’s 43.91 per cent, it is not a good sign.”

He highlighted that a complete change should be brought about in the existing examination systems and curricula so that students.

“SLC results can be considered successful only when 98 per cent of examinees pass the exams. The country should give top priority to the education sector,” he urged.

Bishnu Bahadur Dware, Controller, Office of the Controller of Examinations, stressed that the SLC results above 50 per cent can be considered good but 47.43 per cent is below satisfactory level.

Umesh Shrestha, Chairman of Higher Secondary Schools’ Association of Nepal, said that 47.43 pass percentage denoted failure of education system.
