SLC send-up to be held despite govt directive
PYUTHAN: Defying government policy, the Pyuthan District Secondary Level Examination Committee is planning to conduct send-up exams in the government schools in the district.
The government, two years ago, had eliminated the School Leaving Certificate Send-up exams for tenth graders.
The exam committee is collecting Rs 150 per student for the test.
Dev Raj Gautam, treasurer, District Secondary Level Examination Committee, said a total of 2,400 students from 61 public schools will sit for the send-up test from February 2 in the district. As per the new government policy, a student who has more than 75 per cent attendance is eligible to sit for the SLC examinations even if he/she fails the send-up test.
Sher Bahadur Mahatara, chairperson, Nepal Teachers’ Union Pyuthan termed the new policy impractical and said the removal of examination system before SLC had distracted students from their studies.
Meanwhile, five secondary-level private schools in the district are in a dilemma whether or not to conduct the send-up test. “We are still undecided about conducting the send-up exams,”said Chairman of Pyuthan Private and Boarding Schools’ Association Nepal, Jaganath Pokharel.
District Education Officer of Pyuthan Ana Prasad Neupane said the district secondary level examination committee had decided to conduct the send-up test on its own.
“The committee has taken the decision without informing the DEO,” he added.
