Student unions' ultimatum against semester system in TU
Nine student unions affiliated to various political parties on Thursday gave a 48-hour ultimatum to Tribhuvan University to ‘correct’ its decision to implement semester system from this academic session.
Claiming that the university has not sufficiently prepared for semester system yet, the unions have put forth a 10-point demand including immediate announcement for admission in Masters level first year and implementation of academic calendar. The unions’ other demand are punishment of irregular professors, increment in the scholarships quotas and end political infiltration in university education.
Nepal Student Union (NSU) of Nepali Congress, All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) of CPN-UML and ANNFSU-Revolutionary among others have signed the ultimatum.
The unions have warned of intense protests if their demands are not met.
