Student unions warn of protest against Tribhuvan University- Say semester system in Valley colleges not feasible
Various student unions have decided to protest against Tribhuvan University’s move to expand semester system in all the constituent campuses within the Kathmandu Valley from new academic session, which starts from January.
TU had launched semester system in the central departments of the university last year.
The student unions planning to protest against TU move include All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary, All Nepal Student Union, Nepal Democratic Student Front, Socialist Democratic Student Association, Progressive Student Union, Madhesi Student Forum Loktantrik. The took the decision to launch protest yesterday.
The agitating student unions have accused TU of expanding semester system in constituent campuses in the Valley without adequate preparation and infrastructure.
“A large number of students are going to be deprived of higher education if the semester system is expanded in all campuses within the Valley,” read a press statement issued by the student unions. “TU should scrap its decision to expand semester system this year as it has failed to provide alternatives to the students.”
The student unions have also condemned the government for not decreasing the prices of fuel in accordance with the decrease in fuel prices in international market.
The unions have also expressed their solidarity with the agitation called by the political parties lobbying for federalism with identity.
