Students' campaign for mate's treatment
Students of Pulchowk Engineering College have called members of general public to contribute financially for medical treatment of a patient of leukemia.
Rakesh Patel (23), an Electrical Engineering student at the Campus, has been diagnosed with CML (Chronic Myeloid Leukemia), a cancer of blood and bone marrow; and has been undergoing the medical treatment.
Prasun Shrestha, who is leading the donation campaign at the college, told THT Online that Patel needs around Rs 2.5 million for chemotherapy and haematopoetic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), as recommended by the consulting Haematologist.
Earlier in February last week, the students at the college had organised a charity show of Nepali movie ‘Jhola’ and collected Rs 134,290 for his medical treatment.
According to Shrestha, a total of Rs 160,515 was collected at the show. Of the collected amount, they spent Rs 26,225 for orgnising the events.
Meanwhile, one Jay Sedai, a computer science student of University of Nevada, Las Vegas, has initiated an online donation campaign to support Patel.
