Students' details to be computerized

Kathmandu: The government is planning to document the students' identity cards in the computer system in a bid to put to an end to the practice among the community schools of inflating the number of students enrolled.

It is found that the community schools have been inflating the number of students enrolled in order to rake in more allowances provided to the students from the underprivileged communities.

Stakeholder organizations in the education sector had piled pressure on the education authorities to check the trend, saying that the community schools inflated the number of students while filling up the form on the number of the students from the disadvantaged communities known as the 'flash report'.

The Department of Education sends the flash report to the community schools for filling it up twice a year. However, there is no such mechanism to verify the flash reports send by the community schools in the districts.

In this backdrop, Director General at the Department of Education, Mahashram Sharma said the Department is mulling to prepare special software to document the identity cards of the students.

Problems have been faced in the management of teachers, distribution of the textbooks and the scholarship funds and allocation and releasing the budget in different headings in the absence of exact number of students.
