Students to monitor public vehicles
Kathmandu: Student unions affiliated to various political parties will monitor public vehicles from tomorrow to check whether they are providing concession to students.
Nawaraj Poudel, acting president, CPN-UML-aligned All Nepal National Free Students’ Union, said transporters may have deprived students of 45 per cent discount on transport fares despite a government decision to this effect. The unions’ move comes at a time when the government has hiked transport fares by 9.9 per cent.
“We will monitor public vehicles today to check whether or not the students are getting 45 per cent concession on fares,” said Poudel. He said they will hold talks with other student unions tomorrow morning to make the monitoring more effective.
