Taskforce to set fees threshold for private school
The Central Fee Fixation Committee under the Department of Education has formed a taskforce to propose the ceiling of the fee hike by private schools for the next academic session.
With the formation of the taskforce, private schools wanting to increase the tuition fee can formally increase the fee in the next academic session.
DoE’s initiative follows complaints against the private schools’ haphazard fees system.
A meeting held Sunday under the coordination of Under-Secretary Ram Sharan Sapkota, formed the taskforce comprising representatives of the Private and Boarding Schools Organization Nepal (PABSON) and the National Private and Boarding Schools Organisation Nepal (NPABSON), the Guardians' Association Nepal and the District Education Officer of the three districts in the Kathmandu valley.
Chairman of the Guardians' Association Nepal, Suprabhat Bhandari, who participated in the meeting, said that the taskforce would submit a proposal after studying various issues including the fee threshold, scholarship, monitoring and teachers' salary, among others.
As per the Education Regulation, private schools should submit the ceiling of the fee at the concerned District Education Office three months before and get it endorsed by the District Fee Fixation Committee.
Similarly, the meeting directed the boarding schools to conduct SLC test examination scheduled from third week of January on the basis of norms of internal evaluation. Students cannot be declared as pass or fail in the name of SLC text examination.
