Teachers award certificates
The first batch of students completing their six-month diploma course on the Global Education and Learning were felicitated with certificates at the graduation programme organized by the British Council Global School Partnership (GSP) Programme and Kathmandu University School of Education (KUSOED) on Friday.
A total of 14 teachers who completed their diploma course were awarded by the certificates and results on the occasion.
According to the British Council, as part of its Global Teacher Accreditation strand, the GSP programme and Cambridge Education Foundation, UK had joined hands with KUSOED in May 2011 to launch a six-month part-time course on Global Education and Learning for teachers from the GSP programme.
The course focused on human development and learning, issues in education and curriculum development and evaluation, said the council.
Prof. Mana Prasad Wagley, Dean of KUSOED, said "The initiative taken by British Council’s GSP programme to empower teachers on Global Education is praiseworthy." He said the cooperation between Kathmandu University and the British Council will enrich the quality of school education.
The second phase of course for a group of 20 teachers will begin in November 2011.
Handing over certificates to the teachers, British Council Country Director Dr Robert Monro said that the aim of the British Council was to enhance educational opportunities in Nepal by working with partners to introduce more international ideas and standards.
"Our partnership with Kathmandu University to develop and deliver this course on Global Education and Learning is an excellent example of this", he added.
He further congratulated the participants who have successfully completed the course on their achievement and believed that their students would see the benefits.
The Global School Partnerships Programme aims to motivate young people’s commitment to a fairer, more sustainable world, through partnerships between UK schools and schools in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.
In Nepal, the programme supports pre-primary, primary and secondary schools (Govt., private, faith based, SEN) in developing partnerships with suitable schools in UK.
