Teacher's death stirs up tension in Solukhumbu HQ
Salleri:Solukhumbu district headquarters Salleri remained tense throughout the day today over the mysterious death of Bipin Bastola, a teacher at Himganga Higher Secondary School. Bastola was found dead 11 days ago.
Two people — Nepal National Teachers’ Union chairman Kumarraj Shrestha and teacher Pemba Sherpa — got injured when police baton-charged the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML-aligned teachers while they were picketing the District Administration Office in Salleri demanding an investigation into the death.
At a gathering in Salleri today, agitated teachers threatened to launch a decisive protest if the government does not initiate probe into the death without delay.
UCPN-Maoist (Solukhumbu) accused the agitators of giving Bastola’s death a political hue. In a press release, Maoist district in-charge Gombu Sherpa and secretary Sagar alleged the agitators of trying to defame their party. The Maoists have warned of retaliation if the agitators continue to politicise the death.
