Teachers warn of protests
Bhaktapur: Teachers and other school staff affiliated to Nepal Education Republic Forum (NERF) and Teachers Union of Nepal today staged a two-hour sit-in in front of the Department of Education and five regional education directorates to press the government to fulfill their 47-point demands.
NERF president Home Kumar Thapa, said the unions were going to launch a non-cooperation movement against the government from tomorrow. He added, “We are not going to attend government meetings and other programmes.” He also warned of stringent protests from mid-January if their demands were not met. They have been demanding permanent status for temporary teachers, appointment letters for private school teachers, pay and perks to private school teachers on par with their counterparts in government schools.
