Temp teacher appointments only from roster: TSC
In an attempt to control irregularities, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has directed respective District Education Offices (DEOs) to appoint temporary teachers only from its roster of over 6,400 candidates.
The TSC prepared the roster of candidates, who were in the waiting list of the open competition for teachers conducted recently. According to Uday Raj Soti, chairperson at the TSC, starting from the new fiscal year, public schools can appoint only those candidates whose names are included in the roster. He said the roster has been forwarded to all DEOs.
The new system was introduced following rampant complaints about political and monitory influence in the appointment of temporary teachers . School management committees in most districts were defamed due to alleged irregularities in temporary teachers ’ appointments. Political parties and those in the authority were often accused of influencing the selection process. In 2009, the then Education Minister Ram Chandra Kushwaha was sacked for his alleged involvement in selling hundreds of temporary teachers ’ quota allocated under the Relief Programme. “We hope our initiative will largely stop the malpractice in appointments,” Soti said, adding that those in the roster are competent and there is no need of further test before appointing them. All those who are listed in the roster went through a written test and interview conducted by the TSC.
Soti said the TSC has recommended the names of candidates who could not manage to get selected. Among the 481,775 applicants, 21,635 were selected on merit basis in different categories and among them, 12,743 have been recommended for the permanent posting. Similarly, out of 8,800 applicants who could not manage to get selected for permanent posting, 6,400 have been included in the roster.
