Temporary teachers on warpath
Temporary teachers have decided to up pressure on the government to fulfil their six-point charter of demands.
At a press meet held in Kathmandu today, Ram Chandra Adhikari, president of Temporary Teachers' Struggle Committee, announced that temporary teachers will stage a three-day sit-in in outside Singha Durbar for three days starting September 4 to make the government listen. He said the protesters will gather at Shantibatika at 9:30 am and march close to the government secretariat for the sit-in.“We had to stage a protest after the Teachers' Service Commission announced vacancies without bothering to take temporary teachers into confidence,” he said. TTSC has sought internal competition between temporary and contract teachers for appointment in permanent positions.
Other demands include formation of a constitutional Teachers' Service Commission, uniform allowances to all kinds of teachers and an immediate halt to teachers' appointment on contract.
