Tribhuvan University (TU) plans 40th convocation ceremony at Dasharath stadium
Tribhuvan University (TU) has decided to shift the venue for its 40th convocation ceremony scheduled for December 29 from Kirtipur to Tripureshwor-based Dasharath Stadium in order to minimise its cost.
Of the total 53,178 students who graduated from the university from June 13, 2013 to May 30, 2014, some 8,000 students have applied to participate in the programme. The TU Senate meeting led by Education Minister Chitra Lekha Yadav in August endorsed the grace list of 52nd cohort of the Bachelor’s to PhD level students who graduated from the country’s oldest and largest university. Issuing a notice on Saturday, the university asked the students to collect their gown from the Office of the Controller of Examination for ten days starting 18th December.
Last year too the university conducted its convocation in the stadium to cut down costs. It costs around Rs 4 million to hold the ceremony in the Kirtipur-based venue but the same costs less than Rs 1 million in the stadium.
The Faculty of Education with 20,261 students tops the list of graduates participating in the ceremony, followed by Management Faculty with 14,503 students and Humanities and Social Sciences with 10,979 students. Similarly, 3,612 students from Science and Technology stream, 1,836 from Engineering, 1,057 from Medicine and 480 from the Faculty of Law are in the grace list. In addition, 67
M Phil and PhD graduates from various faculties also are also enlisted in the grace list.
