TU books 104 for moonlighting
The Tribhuvan University has started taking action against its teaching faculties who are found involved in private colleges ignoring several directives from the university to seek necessary permission.
In a public notice on Saturday, the Office of the Registrar has sought written clarification within seven days from 104 teaching faculties of various TU constituent colleges. The TU Executive Board on March 8 took the decision.
“We have sought written clarification from those who have been involved in various private colleges without our permission,” TU Registrar Chandra Mani Poudel told the Post, “We had to announce their names publicly as they defied our directives.”
TU faculties are allowed to teach in private colleges with prior permission from the university and without hampering their classes in the university constituent colleges.
However, various inspections carried out by the TU last year showed many lecturers were irregular in government colleges and the faculty devoted more time to teach outside the TU .
Twelve of the 104 TU faculties who have been listed for clarification are professors and 22 are associate professors. Similarly, 39 are lectures while the remaining 31 are teaching staff. Most of those who flouted the TU rules are from Pulchowk Engineering Campus who were found teaching in Kathmandu Engineering and National Engineering Colleges.
Around two dozen lecturers from Tri-Chandra and Amrit Science Colleges and the Central Department of Science have been found involved in People’s Campus, Goldengate College, Gramin Adarsha, Universal College, Everest College, Bernheart College, DAV college and Darwin college.
According to Poudel, the TU executive board will proceed with further action within a month after evaluating their clarifications.
