TU campuses closed
Kathmandu: Tribhuvan University Employees Association today enforced a closure at the university’s 60 constituent campuses protesting against ‘police high-handedness’ in dealing with protests at Shankar Dev Campus a few days ago.
Bhoj Kumar Basnet, president of the association, said the body would be forced to announce fresh protests if the government fails to assure security for campus employees.
On June 17, cops had manhandled students, teachers and campus staff during protests by UML-aligned Youth Force. Nepal University Teachers Association (NUTA) also organised a protest meet to condemn “assault”.
“Thrashing students, teachers and campus staff, shows the undemocratic character of the government,” said NUTA General Secretary Rameshwor Upadhaya calling on the government to apologise for the incident. NUTA has demanded a probe to bring the culprits to book.
It also demanded that the government compensate for the damaged property.
