TU examinees allege abuse by invigilators
Kathamndu: Second year Master’s students of Tribhuvan University’s Central Department of Population Studies today accused invigilators of mental and sexual harassment.
At a press conference, the girls accused the invigilators of harassing them in the exam hall while they were appearing for Social Justice exam on August 28 at Tri Chandra Campus.
Purnima Neupane (a victim) said the invigilators hugged girl examinees, touched their sensitive parts, asked for money, and mobile number.
“We were threatened of being expelled from the exam hall when we tried to protest,” she said.
She stated that they had submitted a written complaint to the TC Campus chief on August 29 seeking action against the invigilators, only to learn that no action has been taken yet.
Neupane said the victims had already reported the case to National Women’s Commission, National Human Rights Commission, Vice Chancellors’ Office-TU, Office of the Free Students Union-Kirtipur, Women Cell of Metropolitan Police and others.
Shankar Bhandari, assistant campus chief and co-ordinator of probe committee formed by TC, said they suspended teachers.
Mohana Ansari, NWC acting president, said they had received a clarification on the case. “It stated that the examinees accused the teachers of abuse while they were trying to maintain discipline,” she said.
