Tribhuvan University Executive Council (TUEC) has named Dr R K Srivastav as the new Dean of the Institute of Medicine (IoM) on Wednesday.

The TUEC proposed Dr Srivastav for the post on the basis of seniority. The Central varsity decision comes following Prime Minister cum TU Vice-chancellor Sushil Koirala´s directive to appoint new IOM Dean within 24 hours, on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the ´Save IoM Committee´ has said that it will go against TUEC decision of appointing Dr Srivastav. The agitating medical doctors´ committee has put forth its demand to expel the ´tainted´ TU Officials.

"We do not agree to TUEC´s appointment of Dr Srivastav as the new Dean. Our bottom line is to expel ´tainted´ TU Officials," said Dr Binod Pokharel, Coordinator of the Save IoM Committee. Pokharel said that the committee will continue its agitation unless the government expels the TU officials.

Prof Govinda KC, who is on a fourth round of hunger strike from Feb 8, said that he will accept TUEC´s decision to appoint Dr Srivastav as the new Dean if the government forms a new TU Executive Council.
