TU suspects scam in constituent campuses
Though they are supposed to submit annual audit reports to the Tribhuvan University highlighting their income and expenditure‚ various campuses under the Tribhuvan University (TU) have not bothered to do so.
In view of reports of rampant corruption and fund embezzlement in campuses in the past‚ the TU administration has begun suspecting the involvement of constituent campuses in financial irregularities in cahoots with Free Student Unions (FSUs). The TU complained today that its constituent campuses have not bothered to respond‚ though it has sent notices to submit FSU audit reports.
The FSUs have been spending funds under various titles such as student welfare and sports fund.
In every campus‚ each student has to pay fees in the name of FSU and the administration allocates that fund to FSUs‚ said Ganga Bahadur Thapa‚ chief of the TU’s Student Welfare and Sports Division.
Thapa said TU constituent campuses have been collecting Rs 20 to Rs 200 from each student in the name of FSU.
As per TU rules‚ FSUs should maintain a bank account‚ but many of them have not bothered to do so. Flouting the rules‚ they have been dealing directly with the campus administration concerned.
“Thanks to such a practice‚ we do not know how much money FSUs are spending in their activities‚” he said.
According to Thapa‚ only three of the 60 constituent campuses have submitted their annual audit reports to the TU. Others have not responded to our circulars‚ he added.
