TU to open admission forms under annual format from Jan 23
Tribhuvan University’s decision to introduce semester system in all its constituent campuses in the Valley has turned out to be much ado about nothing. It’s official now that things are back to square one. Campuses in the Valley will open admission forms for master’s level under the old annual system from January 23.
A meeting of TU officials held today decided not to implement the semester system in the Valley campuses from this year. The decision follows protests from student unions.
TU had started opened admission forms for semester system from December 16, only to meet with protests from student unions that had halted form distribution. Student unions had charged TU with trying to implement semester system without adequate preparations.
Following several rounds of talks between student unions and TU officials, the varsity today officially decided to withdraw its earlier decision open form distribution for master’s level from January 23.
“We have decided not to implement semester system in Valley campuses except in Science, Law and Public Administration faculties,” said Prof Dev Raj Adhikari, Acting Registrar, TU.
He stated that TU would soon send circulars to its campuses to open admission forms under annual system.
Welcoming TU’s decision, UP Lamichhane, Spokesperson, Nepal Students Union, student wing of the Nepali Congress, said, “Since the infrastructure and human resources in the Valley campuses were not adequate to run classes under the semester system, we had asked the varsity to put in place the pre-requisite before implementing it.”
TU had implemented semester system in its central departments from the last academic session.
