Two hurt in SLC exam centre firing
Janakpur: Two examinees sustained bullet injuries when police opened fire at a School Leaving Certificate exam centre at Dhabauli VDC in Dhanusha district on Tuesday. Fourteen rounds were fired following a clash with protesting students.
Santosh Kumar Yadav of Balabakhar-4 was hurt in his back and arm, while Radhesh Hati of Shahidnagar Yadukuha-3 got injuries in his thigh. They were referred to the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institution of Health Sciences.
A policewoman and some locals were also injured. Superintendent of Police Uttam Raj Subedi said they were compelled to use force.
The clash erupted at the Nimna Madhyamik Vidhyalaya exam centre in Yadukuha VDC. The students protested charging policemen with frisking female students. They boycotted the exam and went on to disrupt the exam at Janata Higher Secondary School in the same VDC.
Students from both the exam centres then reached the Dhabauli Secondary School centre to disrupt the exam. Police said a large number of students stormed into the exam centre. As a result, the exam was cancelled in all the three centres.
Meanwhile, an all-party meeting convened by CDO Hari Prasad Mainali agreed to continue the exams from Wednesday. A team has been formed to investigate the incident.
