UK raises bar for foreign students
Kathmandu: The UK Border Agency has recently brought changes to the country’s student visa system barring over 450 education institutions in the UK from enrolling new international students.
The new arrangement has significantly raised the standard education providers must meet before they can admit international students, the British embassy in Kathmandu said in a statement.
“So far, over 400 colleges have already lost their right to recruit international students after they failed to sign up for the new inspection system,” it said, adding, “As well as cutting abuse, the new standards will help ensure that genuine international students receive the highest quality education.”
The embassy said that these colleges would have brought more than 11,000 students into the UK to study this year.
The agency has revoked the licences of around 51 institutions to recruit international students. It has also created a list of more than 2,000 financial institutions, from whom it will no longer accept evidence to show that students have sufficient funds to support themselves and pay for their course, the statement said.
