Unlock TU campuses: ANNISU-R
Kirtipur: The UCPN-Maoist aligned All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) today gave Tribhuvan University officials a 24-hour ultimatum to lift the lock at constituent campuses and create a conducive environment for Free Students Union (FSU) elections scheduled for June 6. Various student unions have been padlocking around half-a-dozen campuses, including the Kirtipur-based Tribhuvan University Campus, Exhibition Road-based Ratna Rajya Campus and the Tahachal-based Tahachal Campus, demanding that it scrap enrolment of fake students at these campuses.
The TU has already pledged to probe cases of fake students, including those who got enrolled by showing fake cards of Jana Andolan injured, but the pledge has not materialised.
The ANNISU-R also staged an hourlong sit-in in front of the TU Vice-chancellor’s office from 1 pm to 2 pm.
The student union has threatened to launch a protest if the TU fails to address its demands by 12 am tomorrow.
In such a scenario, the student union will demand the resignation of campus chiefs concerned.
Madan Aryal, ANNISU-R secretary, said, “We will demand the resignation of TU Vice-chancellor, Rector and Registrar if they fail to meet the students’ demands.”
The union has warned that it will padlock all campuses if the university fails to conduct FSU elections on schedule.
