Varsity grants commission lock lifted after two months
Kathmandu: Professors’ associations affiliated to various political parties on Wednesday opened the padlock at University Grants Commission (UGC) after nearly two months. Nepal National Professors’ Association (NNPA), aligned to UCPN-M had padlocked the office of UGC at Sanothimi on May 18 against the appointment of Prof Dr Ganesh Gurung to the post of chairperson and Bhola Pokharel to the post of member secretary, both close to the CPN-UML. To express solidarity with NNPA, Loktantrik Professors’ Association close to Tarai Madhes Democratic Party had also padlocked the same office. Before their appointment, UGC had been without top officials for eight months.
